The Moon Is Slowly Moving Away From Earth. In About 600 Million Years Solar Eclipses Will No Longer Be Possible.
The moon is receding from Earth at 3.8 centimeters per year, measured by laser bounced off retroreflectors left by Apollo astronauts. In approximately 600 million years its apparent diameter will no longer cover the sun’s, and total solar eclipses will become physically impossible. We are living in the only window when they exist.
